Accomplishments

Rufina Tropicals was established to showcase the CNMI's first plant export business and agri-tourism facility. The name was inspired by Rowina's late mother, Rufina, and reflects her lifelong passion and love for plants. The project highlights a diverse collection of tropical fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants through botanical garden trails, while also showcasing creative landscaping concepts, garden art. In addition, specializing in agri-custom-built structures designed for residential, commercial, and community spaces.
Like many small businesses, Rufina Tropicals faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and was placed on hold. Unfortunately, the project experienced a difficult setback when, due to circumstances beyond Rowina's control, the facility was no longer in Rowina's stewardship of her own botanical gardens and plant collections that had been carefully cultivated over the years were ultimately lost. While it was difficult to witness the loss of something built with so much passion and purpose, the experience strengthened her commitment to rebuilding and continuing the vision behind Rufina Tropicals.
Despite these challenges, the vision remains rooted in a passion for agriculture, conservation, education, and sharing the beauty and potential of the Northern Mariana Islands. Through botanical gardens, landscaping, plant cultivation, and future agri-tourism opportunities, Rufina Tropicals continues to represent a commitment to preserving, growing, and celebrating the natural beauty of the islands for future generations.

Trankilu Marianas, LLC—named after the Chamorro word trankilu, meaning "tranquil" or "peaceful"—was created to help reduce interisland freight costs between Saipan and Rota while providing the convenience of online shopping with local pickup and delivery. Although the concept proved successful, the project was placed on hold due to unforeseen circumstances. Recognizing its potential community impact, we later developed a proposal for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which can be found in the Deferred Projects section.

Tavajah Essences was created from a simple desire to share one of the islands' most treasured gifts with others. Inspired by the coconut and its many traditional uses, the product reflects a part of island life that has been passed down through generations. Beyond its use for skin and hair care, coconut oil has long been valued by our people as a natural remedy and an important part of daily living.
The name Tavajah was lovingly created from the initials of Rowina's four children: T - Tivana, and V - Vincent, and J - Jupri, and H - Hunter. What began as a personal hobby soon became a meaningful way to share the warmth, beauty, and spirit of island living with others.

Miss Northern Marianas Descent was established to address the lack of representation of the indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian people of the Northern Mariana Islands within the
pageant industry. Created as a platform that celebrates not only beauty, but also culture, heritage, history, and identity, the program is exclusively open to individuals who meet the qualifications of Northern Marianas descent. Through cultural education, leadership development, and community engagement, the pageant serves as a meaningful way to preserve and promote the unique heritage of the islands for future generations.

LAM (Lina'la Initiative Corp. and Miss Northern Marianas Descent Foundation, Inc.) is a dual non-profit organization founded with a vision of strengthening communities through service, cultural preservation, sustainability, and community empowerment. Because of this shared vision, many outreach efforts, programs, and community activities are carried out by the same dedicated volunteers and members who generously contribute their time, knowledge, and resources to support both organizations. This collaborative approach allows each organization to maximize its impact while remaining committed to its individual objectives and responsibilities.
