From Challenge to Opportunity
Lina'la Initiative Corp. was born from a simple observation of challenging times in our islands. As businesses began closing and unemployment increased, it became clear that many families were facing uncertainty about their future. Rather than focusing on what was being lost, the vision of Lina'la Initiative focused on the blessings that still remained around us—our land, our culture, our talents, and the abundant natural resources of the Marianas.
The idea was inspired by the belief that our community already possesses many of the tools needed to support itself. Long before outside resources became available, our Chamorro and Carolinian ancestors relied on their knowledge, skills, and connection to the land and sea to provide for their families and sustain their communities. Their resilience serves as a reminder that self-sufficiency is not a new concept, but rather a value deeply rooted in our heritage.
Lina'la Initiative was established to help strengthen community sustainability by encouraging entrepreneurship, agriculture, cultural knowledge, and local talent. The organization seeks to create opportunities for individuals and families to transform their skills, creativity, and resources into products and services that can be shared both locally and globally through e-commerce and other economic opportunities.
The vision was shaped by the experiences of Rowina Ogo through her 1st business - Rufina Tropicals, an agri-tourism and plant export business. Through that journey, she witnessed firsthand the potential of local products and the possibilities that exist when island resources are paired with innovation and determination. What began as a business concept eventually grew into a broader community-centered vision—one that seeks to empower people, celebrate culture, and build a more resilient and self-sustaining future for the Northern Mariana Islands.
